Westlake High School is facing a mental health crisis, and we’re working to strengthen on-campus support by expanding access to counselors and resources, reducing stigma, and making it normal for students to ask for help.

Sb 531 was a bill that amends the California Education Code to require mandatory, age-appropriate mental health education for all public school students in grades 1 through 12.. It aims to destigmatize mental health challenges, introduce necessary vocabulary early on, and equip students with the tools to recognize distress and seek help early.
As of February 2nd, 2026, the bill has officially failed to pass.
